The discovery of the healing effects of petroleum jelly were made in 1859 by a 22-year old British chemist in Pennsylvania. After five years of perfecting his extracting technique, in 1865, Chesebrough patented this process of making petroleum jelly – this was the beginning of the triple-purification process, that is unique to the Vaseline brand.
