World Tourism Day 2026: Small Island. Global Connections.

On the 27th of September, we celebrate World Tourism Day 2026, M&Z plc reflects on one of the sectors that has played an important role in shaping Malta’s relationship with the wider world: tourism.

For a small island nation in the heart of the Mediterranean, Malta has long had an extraordinary ability to attract people from across the globe. Visitors come to experience our history, culture, architecture, coastline, cuisine and distinctive Mediterranean character. In doing so, they also become part of Malta’s ongoing story.

Tourism is therefore about much more than travel. It creates connections between people, cultures and communities, while contributing to economic activity and opening doors to new ideas, experiences and opportunities.
